Terms of Use
The short version
- Thrennel is free, invite-only and for adults (18+). There is nothing to buy, so there are no charges or refunds.
- Your journal is yours. We only use it to run the service for you.
- Keep your password and recovery code safe. If you lose both, nobody can recover your journal.
- AI output can be wrong. Thrennel is not medical, legal, financial or mental-health advice, and it is not a crisis service.
1. Agreement
These Terms are an agreement between you and Thrennel (“the operator”, “we”, “us”), who runs Thrennel at thrennel.com. By creating an account or using Thrennel you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Thrennel.
2. Who can use Thrennel
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into this agreement. Accounts are by invitation only. Invite codes are single-use and personal; please do not sell or publish them.
3. Your account
- Keep your password and recovery code private and safe. You are responsible for activity under your account.
- Your journal is encrypted with a key that only your password or recovery code unlocks. If you lose both, your journal cannot be recovered by anyone, including the operator.
- Tell us promptly if you think someone else has accessed your account.
4. Price, payments and refunds
Thrennel is currently free. We do not take payments and do not ask for payment details, so there is nothing to refund. If we ever introduce paid features, we will publish their price and refund terms first, and nothing will be charged without your explicit agreement.
5. Your content
You keep all rights to what you write and import (“your content”). You give the operator only the limited permission needed to store, process, back up and display your content to you and to run the features you use, including sending parts of it to the AI services described in the Privacy Policy. This permission ends when your content is deleted, apart from backups that rotate out within about 14 days.
You can export your journal at any time from Settings.
Content you import
Thrennel lets you save articles, videos, images and files for your own private reference. You are responsible for having the right to save and use what you import. Imported material stays in your private journal and is never published by Thrennel. Do not upload other people’s personal information unless you are allowed to.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use Thrennel for anything illegal, or to store content that is illegal to possess;
- try to access other people’s accounts or data, or test, probe or break the service’s security without written permission;
- overload, disrupt, scrape or automate the service, or get around its limits;
- use the AI features to generate content that breaks the law or Anthropic’s usage policies;
- resell, share or let others use your account.
7. AI features
Summaries, answers, topics and other AI output are generated automatically and can be incomplete or wrong. Check anything important. Thrennel is a journal, not a professional service, and nothing it produces is medical, psychological, legal or financial advice.
Thrennel is not a crisis service and nobody monitors what you write. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact your local emergency number now. In the US you can call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline).
8. Copyright complaints
Thrennel’s design, code, logo and icons are the operator’s own work. Its fonts (Inter, Instrument Serif and JetBrains Mono) are used under the SIL Open Font License; see Inter, Instrument Serif and JetBrains Mono.
Content in Thrennel is private to each account and not published. If you nevertheless believe something on Thrennel infringes your copyright, send the details (the work, where it appears, your contact details and a statement that you are the owner or authorised to act for them) to admin@thrennel.com.
9. Availability and changes to the service
Thrennel is run by an individual and provided on a best-effort basis. It may be unavailable at times, and features may change. Backups are made daily, but please keep your own exports of anything important. If we decide to shut Thrennel down, we will give you at least 30 days’ notice in the app where possible so you can export your journal.
10. Ending your account
You can stop using Thrennel at any time and ask us to delete your account (see the Privacy Policy). We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these Terms or puts the service or other users at risk. Where reasonable we will warn you first and give you a chance to export your journal.
11. No warranty
To the extent the law allows, Thrennel is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of AI output, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
12. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for loss of data, arising from your use of Thrennel. Because Thrennel is free, the operator’s total liability for any claim is limited to US $50. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your rights as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and may bring a claim in your local courts.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will change the date at the top, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app before they take effect. If you keep using Thrennel after that, the updated Terms apply. If you do not agree, you can export your journal and close your account.
