Cookie Policy

Last updated October 7, 2026

The short version

Thrennel uses one cookie, to keep you signed in, plus a few items your browser stores for the app itself. There are no advertising, analytics or third-party cookies. Everything here is strictly necessary for the service you asked for, so there is no cookie banner to click through.

NamePurposeLastsSet by
dt_session Keeps you signed in. It holds a random session ID and nothing else. It cannot be read by scripts on the page (HttpOnly), is only sent over HTTPS, and is not attached to requests that other websites start in the background (SameSite). The browser keeps it for up to 30 days. The server ends the session after 15 minutes of inactivity unless you ticked “Remember this device”, or when you sign out. Thrennel (first-party)

2. Other things stored in your browser

These never leave your device and are not sent to the server.

NameTypePurpose
ni-settingsLocal storage Your app preferences on this device, such as light or dark mode, accent colour, and whether you have seen the dictation notice. Stays until you clear it.
thrennel-draftLocal storage A thought you started typing but have not saved yet, so it is not lost if the page reloads. Removed when you save the thought or sign out with Log out. On a shared computer, use Log out when you are done.
ni-bootedSession storage Remembers that the loading screen has already been shown in this tab. Removed when you close the tab.
thrennel-shell-…Cache storage (service worker) A copy of the app’s pages, styles, fonts and icons so it opens quickly and can show a friendly page when you are offline. It contains no journal content.

Privacy laws such as the EU and UK ePrivacy rules require consent for cookies and similar storage unless they are strictly necessary to provide a service you explicitly asked for. Everything listed above falls in that category. If Thrennel ever adds anything that is not strictly necessary, such as analytics, we will ask for your consent first and update this page.

4. Your control

You can delete cookies and site data at any time in your browser’s settings. If you block the dt_session cookie, you will not be able to sign in. Clearing site data also resets your appearance settings on that device.
